The Tandym Group is Hiring a Behavior Intervention Specialist (Part-time) Near Hauppauge, NY

A Long Island-based family services organization is looking to add a new Behavior Intervention Specialist to their team in Suffolk County on a Part-time basis. In this role, the Behavior Intervention Specialist will be responsible for communicating with and advocating on behalf of the individuals/agency to doctors, practitioners, clinicians, family members, etc., in the community towards diagnosing conditions, developing plans of care and evaluating responses.

Responsibilities:
The Behavior Intervention Specialist will:

  • Actively participate and present at Human Rights Committee (HRC) meetings, Life Plan (LP) and LP review meetings, SAP and SAP review meetings, staff meetings, trainings, Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings and other forums
  • Conduct internal audits and submit findings to the supervisor
  • Conduct internal audits of clinical policies, procedures, and systems to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Consult with doctors and clinicians to ensure optimal clinical treatments are provided to people being supported
  • Ensure behavioral plans are accurate as they are deemed legal and clinical documents.
  • Provide monthly data on resident’s progress, such as hospitalization due to behaviors (charts, graphs, spreadsheets, etc.)
  • Complete behavior health related plans and additional documents as
  • Provide training to staff on behavior treatment plans, and on topics/plans related to behavioral health
  • Engage individuals in individual and/or group treatment as needed (active treatment).
  • Coordinate psychological care and behavioral programs with families, medical providers, residential settings, or other relevant stakeholders in the individual’s service
  • Provide crisis intervention, as well as instruct staff in appropriate techniques for addressing challenging behaviors
  • Participate in staff meetings and attend other meetings, committee/specialty, and provide feedback to staff as requested by supervisor
  • Perform other duties, as needed

Qualifications:

  • 1 year of OPWDD clinical experience
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • In-depth knowledge of OPWDD services, regulations and best practices required
  • Computer savvy
  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Highly organized
